Lance G.W. Smith
AIA, Architect

Lance joined the firm in 2020 and immediately got to work on the Boston Athenaeum renovation and expansion project.

Lance’s passion for working with existing buildings was fostered in 2010 during an undergraduate adaptive reuse studio while attending the University of Washington, Seattle. He infuses into his projects the belief that buildings are living documents and are in a constant process of revision and that, to quote Carl Elefante, “The greenest building is one that is already built.”

Lance’s role as a project architect at Annum allows him to take a deep dive at the many scales and layers that existing buildings offer, from building condition assessments to program studies – and everything in between. His work helps guide clients through the process of defining project goals through project delivery/contract administration and helps build consensus amongst the different stakeholders. He is committed to creating beautiful spaces that work well for the end users.

Lance enjoys collecting antique furniture, listening to music, and gardening in his free time.
