Graves Hall at Phillips Academy in Andover receives Preservation Massachusetts Tsongas Award
Phillips Academy in Andover has received a 2026 Paul & Niki Tsongas Award from Preservation Massachusetts for the recent renovation of Graves Hall. This highest honor from Preservation Massachusetts recognizes people and projects that have displayed outstanding commitment to historic preservation in the Commonwealth.
Graves Hall has served the Academy for nearly a century and a half, supporting evolving academic and administrative needs while maintaining its architectural character. This renovation and adaptive reuse reflects Phillips Academy’s commitment to stewardship, ensuring that Graves Hall continues to serve the institution’s mission well into the future.
Working with construction manager BW Kennedy & Co., Annum’s design repositions the building as a centralized administrative hub, balancing contemporary operational requirements with the careful preservation of character‑defining features. Through architectural restoration, sensitive spatial adaptation, and comprehensive systems upgrades, the project honors the building’s layered history while enabling its next chapter as an integral part of campus life.
We are thrilled to celebrate this accomplishment on June 11th at Fenway Park along with other awardees dedicated to preserving the important history and landmarks of our communities.
