Melissa Murphy

Melissa Murphy joined the firm in 2013 and has guided programming, planning, design, and project delivery for several cultural, academic, and civic institutions. Melissa’s far-reaching design and technical expertise includes planning and renovations of existing historic buildings, Embassy and Consulate facilities, creating new classrooms, lecture halls, food service and dining, student residences, and collaborative spaces. Melissa provided planning, programming, and feasibility studies for the Smithsonian Institution at the National Museum of American History, addressing security, circulation, and climate resiliency in a comprehensive Master Plan update, and co-authored programming and feasibility studies for the revitalization of the Arts and Industries Building, examining alternative concepts and costs for renovating the building to support programs, exhibits, public amenities, and workplace. Melissa provided planning, design, and construction administration for a new mixed-use residential project at Bates College and led construction administration for the renewal of New York’s landmark Grolier Library. Most recently, Melissa has provided planning, design, and documentation for several projects with the US Department of State Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) on US diplomatic facilities overseas. 

Melissa Murphy is registered in Massachusetts and holds Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Science in Architecture degrees from Northeastern University. She is active with the Boston Society of Architects and currently serves as a member of the BSA Membership Committee.
